Brow Lift/Eyelids – Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty is also called eyelid lift surgery. It is done to correct the puffiness, sagging and drooping of upper eyelids. It is also performed to remove the excess skin and bags under the lower eyelids. It improves the appearance of your eyelids and the area around it to give you a younger and more relaxed look.

You are a candidate for eyelid lift surgery if you are healthy, a non-smoker and not suffering from any chronic or life threatening disease conditions. Risks of the procedure increase for people with diabetes, dry eyes, glaucoma, high blood pressure, thyroid problems, heart and vascular diseases.

During the procedure you will be given either local anaesthesia and sedation or general anaesthesia as felt appropriate by your plastic surgeon. The incision on the upper eyelid is made so the scar is hidden in the natural crease of the upper eyelid. The fat or extra skin is removed. The incision on the lower eyelid is either made just below the lower lash line or inside the lower eyelid. The excess skin is removed and /or the fat may be removed or redistributed as required. The incisions are closed with sutures, surgical tape or skin adhesives. Medications and ointment are prescribed to help with faster healing and to prevent infection after the procedure. You must wear sun glasses until healing is complete.

The swelling and bruising seen after the procedure goes away in a few weeks. The scars of the incision fade away in a few months to reveal beautiful eyes with well-defined smooth eyelids to give you a young and rejuvenated look.

Blepharoplasty can also be done along with other procedures such as face-lift, brow-lift or skin resurfacing to improve your looks substantially.

Risks rarely occur but may include infection, scarring, temporary blurred vision or double vision and dry eyes. Loss of vision may occur in extremely rare cases. Talk to your surgeon about any concerns you have before the procedure.

Facelift

Facelift is a cosmetic surgery (rhytidectomy) performed to rejuvenate the facial skin and to give a younger and aesthetic appearance. Facelift is performed to clear the smile lines, smooth the contour and tighten the neck so as to give you the look as younger as you feel.

MACS (Minimal Access Cranial Suspension) facelift or mini facelift is a surgical procedure for the correction of sagging facial features. Unlike a normal facelift, the MACS lift is a new technique that offers the advantage of a short incision and a shorter recovery period. It is a natural facial rejuvenation often used for patients with sagging cheeks.

The procedure takes about 3 hours to complete and is performed under general or local anaesthesia. During the procedure, your surgeon makes an incision in front of your ear. After making the incision, the tissues under the skin are tightened with permanent stitches. These sutures pass down to your neck, jowls and cheek fat pad. As the malar fat pad is elevated the lower eyelids are also raised, lid blepharoplasty can be done at the same time. Liposuction may also be performed to remove fatty tissue from your neck and free up more excess skin for re-draping. You need to wear a firm bulky bandage and a drain is placed behind the ears to drain extra fluids and blood.

Bandages are eased the next day and removed on the 2nd day and hair washed. Later on, a light chin-up bandage is worn for one week. There may be some residual bruising particularly around the eyes.

The MACS facelift is a short scar technique that gives you a fresh natural appearance. You can appear around eight to ten years younger after complete recovery. Based on your skin type and your lifestyle, the advantages of the MACS lift procedure will last for around ten years. In addition, your overall results are also affected by your diet, body weight and exposure to sunlight. Obviously the skin will continue to age in a natural way.

Neck Lift

Neck lift is a surgical procedure performed to improve the appearance of the neck and under the jaw line by reducing the loose sagging skin. Neck lift, also called cervicoplasty or neck lift with platysmaplasty procedure is used to enhance the appearance of your neck. The procedure usually takes two to three hours, but the time may differ accordingly if other surgeries such as liposuction, facelift, brow lift are performed along with neck lift.

The procedure is performed under general or local anaesthesia and a small incision is made under your chin in front and behind the ear to access the platysma (neck muscle) and tighten them as required. You doctor may also perform liposuction on the neck to remove excess fat deposits from the neck. Some excess skin is also removed through the incisions near the ears. After the muscles are tightened the skin is draped over the ear.  The extra skin is then trimmed and the incisions are closed using sutures. A drain is placed on the neck to drain extra fluids to decrease the swelling and discomfort following the surgery.

Following the surgery, you will have a compression bandage to help decrease the swelling. Most patients are able to restore to normal activities after 10 to 14 days. Avoid participating in sports for at least 3 weeks.

Complications associated with neck lift include infection, swelling and bruising, tightness or tingling, burning or pulling sensation and numbness on the skin.

Cheek Implants

A beautiful face is a balanced faced with the eyes, nose, lips, cheek and chin in proportion to each other. Facial implants can be used to enhance structural integrity and create a more balanced and attractive face in patients with a disproportion between the different sections of the face.

Augmentation of the cheek and the chin are the most common facial implant procedures. A chin implant can improve the appearance of the chin whereas a cheek implant can give a more voluminous look to otherwise flat cheeks. These facial implants are made of biocompatible materials and are available in different shapes and sizes to achieve the desired results.

Good health is one of the prerequisites for the implantation procedure. Smoking hampers the wound healing ability of the body and causes increased scarring. If you are a smoker, the surgeon may ask you to quit smoking before the surgery and continue to abstain from it after the procedure as well.

Procedure

The implant surgery is performed under general anaesthesia or intravenous sedation. For chin implant, an incision is made either below the chin or inside the mouth below the lower lip. For cheek implant, an incision is usually made inside the mouth through the upper lip. When coupled with other procedures for the face, the incision may be made inside the lower eyelid or within the hair line. Hence the surgical scar is either not visible or hardly noticeable. An appropriate implant is then inserted in the chin or cheek, through the incision. The implant is held in place either by making a well-fitting pocket or fixing it to the surrounding bone or soft tissue. The incision is finally closed with absorbable sutures or stitches that will be removed 1-2 weeks after the surgery.

After the surgery

Pain killers and antibiotics are prescribed, after the surgery, to reduce pain and the risk of infection. Localized swelling, discoloration, numbness or discomfort, at the operated site, may develop after the procedure. Some facial movements may also be temporarily restricted, during the healing phase.

The final results of the surgery and the actual improvement in appearance can be appreciated only after 3-4 months of the surgery. This final improvement in appearance is permanent.

Contact your surgeon immediately if you experience any of the following symptoms after the surgery:

  • Abnormal pain or swelling
  • Abnormal discharge from the incision site
  • Fever greater than 38 ̊C

Lip Augmentation/Enhancement

Lip enhancement enhances the contour, definition and shape of your lips. It is used to plump up thin lips or to redefine the lost shape and fullness of the lips because of ageing. It also removes fine vertical lines above and below the lips which occur as you age and are called as smoker’s lines, lifts up the drooping corners of the mouth and prevents lipstick from bleeding. Although surgical techniques are available, in most cases the condition can be addressed with non-surgical techniques and also the non-surgical techniques confer several benefits such as non-invasive procedure are therefore less trauma, minimal recovery period, and also affordable compared to surgical procedures.

Treatment usually lasts about 30 minutes and is performed under local anaesthesia. The lip is injected with dermal filler using a fine disposable sterile needle. Temporary bruising and swelling in the lip area may occur after the procedure which subsides within few days. The results usually last for 6 months to 8 months. Lip enhancement is thus a safe and non-invasive procedure to give you natural, soft, fuller, smooth and symmetrical sensuous lips with plump pout in just 30 minutes.

Before the treatment your surgeon will evaluate your individual needs and determine the dermal filler to be used to get the desired results for you.
