Anti-Wrinkle Injections

A wrinkle is a fold or crease in the skin. As we age, the supportive components of our skin such as elastic fibres, collagen fibres, and hyaluronic acid, a substance that maintains the skin texture get destroyed slowly. As a result our skin becomes thinner, drier, and less elastic and starts to sag. Wrinkles begin to develop in the areas such as the forehead, and around the eyes and lips.

Anti-wrinkle injections are indicated to smoothen and eliminate forehead lines, frown lines, crow’s feet and neck bands. Frown lines are wrinkles which form between the eyebrows and crow’s feet wrinkles form around the eyes. Overactive facial muscles around the eyes and lower forehead may give a person an angry, tired, or displeased appearance – even when they are not experiencing that emotion. These anti-wrinkle injections give you a more relaxed, yet expressive face.  Neck bands are visible bands on the neck formed as a result of aging. The cords or bands that protrude from the neck tend to sag with the aging process and pull the neck down. Treatment with anti-wrinkle injection reduces these neck bands and gives you a more natural look. These agents work by relaxing the contracted muscles which cause these wrinkles.

We use Botox® which is approved by United States Food & Drug Administration (FDA).

Procedure: It is a simple office procedure. The area to be treated is cleansed thoroughly. An ice pad may be applied to reduce discomfort and the anti-wrinkle agents are injected with a fine needle directly into the muscle beneath the wrinkle. The muscle function becomes weakened, eliminating part or all of its function. Long standing skin creases will soften and may eventually disappear. The final results will be a softer, more relaxed and pleasing appearance.

The procedure may last for 10 minutes. You may return to work immediately. It is a painless procedure, though a mild stinging sensation may be felt.

Adverse Effects: Redness and bruising at the site of injection may be seen which will resolve in a day or two. You may experience mild headaches also. Double vision, drooping or swollen eyelid, dry eyes, and reduced blinking are other side effects.

Precautions: To reduce bruising after treatment

  • Avoid alcohol consumption at least 1 week before treatment
  • Stop taking anti-inflammatory medicines and aspirin 2 weeks prior to treatment
  • Avoid rubbing the treated area or lying down after your treatment as the injected botulinum toxin can spread to other areas nearby and paralyse nerves

Results: The outcomes of anti-wrinkle injections usually last from four to six months. If you are dissatisfied with the benefits from a single injection, a second injection can be given after 1 week. Once you get a satisfactory result, the next visit is scheduled after 2-3 months.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion or particle skin resurfacing is a non-invasive, non-surgical, procedure that uses a highly controlled spray of fine aluminum oxide crystals to remove the outer layer of skin and reveal a younger, tighter, and more radiant skin underneath.

The microdermabrasion technique abrades the skin using a high-pressure flow of crystals. This is an effective treatment for fine wrinkles, enlarged pores, aging changes, and superficial scars with minimum risk and rapid recovery.

Microdermabrasion makes your skin thicker and healthier. Multiple treatments are beneficial as they encourage the production of higher levels of collagen and elastin which are essential for healthy glowing skin. It further improves your complexion and the overall appearance of your skin.

A series of 5-12 treatments are required to achieve good results. The treatment can be significantly longer in cases of acne scars. Initial treatments are scheduled weekly or biweekly followed by monthly to biannually for maintenance therapy. This technique should not be considered during concomitant use of accutane (isoretinoin), active herpes infection, malignant skin tumours, and certain keratoses.

Dermal Filler Treatment

Our skin is made up of three layers namely the epidermis or the outermost layer, the dermis is the second layer and the hypodermis which is the deepest layer. As we age, the supportive components of our skin such as elastic fibres, collagen fibres, and hyaluronic acid, a substance that maintains the skin texture get destroyed slowly. As a result our skin becomes thinner, drier, and less elastic and starts to sag. Wrinkles (fold or crease in the skin) begin to develop in the areas such as the forehead, and around the eyes and lips. The lips get thinner and lose their original beauty especially in the V-shaped area of the upper lip known as Cupid’s bow.

Dermal filler injections are used to rejuvenate your aging skin and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds. Dermal fillers are used for lip enhancement and facial contouring. They are also indicated for restoring skin volume, smoothening nasolabial folds (the folds running from the sides of the bottom of the nose to the outer corners of the mouth) and to treat fine lines, crow’s feet (little lines on the side of the eyes), frown lines acne scars and forehead creases.

Lip enhancement can enhance the contour, definition and shape of your lips dermal filler treatment. This is a treatment useful for those women who have thin lips and who have lost the shape because of ageing. Treatment usually lasts about 30 minutes and is performed under local anaesthesia. The lip area is injected using a fine disposable sterile needle with a juvederm or dermal filler in order to provide the plumpness or fullness.

Lip enhancement provides fast results and usually last for up to 6 months. Immediately after lip enhancement treatment, you may experience temporary bruising and swelling in the lip area. To decrease the risk of bleeding at the injection site, you may be recommended not to take other medications such as aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDS) a week before the injection session. Following the injection, an ice pack may be applied to the treated area in order to prevent swelling.

Facial contouring is done to enhance the appearance of facial lines, wrinkles and folds. Facial contouring softens the facial lines and wrinkles and helps restore the volume and fullness to the skin. The area to be treated will be marked and then the dermal filler will be injected. The results of the treatment are immediate, giving you a more youthful appearance.

After the procedure some patients may experience pain, redness, tenderness, swelling, bruising, or itching, lumps and bumps and discoloration. All of these adverse effects are usually mild and temporary, lasting less than seven days. There may also be a risk of infection, as seen with all skin injection procedures.

In the first 24 hours following the injection your doctor may recommend you to avoid excessive sun or heat exposure, any strenuous exercise, and alcoholic beverages in order to decrease the risk of developing temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the injection sites.

Botox

Botox cosmetic injections are approved by the US FDA for reduction and improvement of moderate to severe frown lines, between the eyebrows which are also called glabellar lines.

Glabellar lines are vertical lines between the eyebrows that appear over the forehead when a person frowns. They occur due to the contraction of two major muscles, between the eye brows. As age progresses, these glabellar lines may appear over the forehead of some individuals even at rest; portraying an angry or tired expression. This impacts the facial appearance of the individual.

These glabellar lines can be significantly reduced by injecting small doses of Botox into the muscles at various points along the two eyebrows. The injection temporarily blocks the transmission of nerve signals to these muscles, preventing their contraction. The injection causes only minimal discomfort for a shortsome time, following the administration. The physician may minimize the discomfort by numbing the area with a cold pack or anaesthetic cream before administering the injection. The whole procedure usually takes about 10 minutes. There is no downtime for the procedure. The Improvement in the glabellar lines is visible within a few days of the Botox cosmetic injections and the improvements continue for a month. The results vary from individual to individual and the improvement usually last for about four months.
